Why The Giant Armadillo?

It is all thanks to my college professor……….. One of the courses she taught focused on designing things based on one animal. Right up my alley! At this point in time I was painting a lot of cat and dog pet portraits but wanted to challenge myself to a different textured animal. How the heck did I end up choosing an armadillo as my focus for the term? Pokemon… Sandshrew to be exact. Sandshrew is a 3 banded armadillo, it can curl up into a ball. I was fascinated by that. For the college class I did not research one type of armadillo though, and now that I think of it, I didn’t even research the giant armadillo. Because of that course one of my favorite animals is now an armadillo. So when I started the Endangered Wildlife Spotlight Mail Club, the first animal I felt should be showcased if any of them were endangered was an armadillo. Unfortunately there are several types of armadillos on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species, the Giant Armadillo being one of them.
